Dentist extends the Father's smile to patients
Don Couchman has a dental practice in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA. He cares for his patients like a father would his children, and will speak to them about the Lord when the Holy Spirit leads him.
On a Thursday morning in February (the day after a Harvest Evangelism Summit Meeting), a 25-year-old patient came to my dental office for a routine check up and cleaning. I had known this young man and his mother for several years and we had been praying for his dad to come to know Jesus. During a Promise Keeper's Conference the previous September, I met his dad and learned that he had been abandoned as a small child. When I went in to see this young man, the Holy Spirit welled up inside of me and I said, “Your dad has an orphan spirit. He loves you very much and would give you what ever he could, but he can't give you what he doesn't have. You need a father's blessing. Would you like to receive it now?” He said, “Yes.” I looked him in the eyes and said, “You are a man now. God has a plan and a purpose for your life. It's time to fulfill your destiny.” He received the blessing and thanked me.
Then I looked him in the eyes again and said, “You will now be able to pursue the relationship with the woman God has for you to marry.” He said, “Do you know about the problems I have had with relationships with women?” I assured him that I didn't. Before he left the office, he came to the room I was working in and thanked me. I invited him into my private office and assured him that his dad loved him very much and would give him anything that he had. Later in the day, I received a message that his mom had called. When I returned her call, she said that her son had called her after his appointment and said, “Dr. Couchman gave me permission to grow up today.” She went on to say that her son had not been taking responsibility for his life. In fact, 30 days prior he had stated that he was enjoying his rebellious life style and didn't even know if he was still a Christian.
Over the weekend the Lord prompted me to call this young man and tell him that he needed to honor his mother and father. When I called him on Tuesday to tell him this, he said, “Did you know that I have been living with my girl friend?” I assured him that I didn't. I then told him to stop. He then said that this was dishonoring his mother and was a hindrance to his dad coming to the Lord. I told him that he needed to go to his girl friend and tell her that he had not been honoring her.
Three weeks later, he went up to our senior pastor after one of the morning services and told him of the encounter in the dental office. Then he stated that he had quit living with his girl friend. His relationship with his parents was better than ever before and this was the first Sunday that he had been in church in over a year. Glory be to God. Praise be to His name.
