Divine acquisitions in the marketplace

David Wendorff lives in Rolling Hills Estates, California, USA, and owns a company that builds communities of homes. David and his partner have seen God strategically send buyers for the homes in their developments as they have prayed for new projects.

God has been teaching me how to be a Christian in the work place and to view myself not just as a businessman who happens to be a Christian, but a person who has been purposefully placed in the marketplace to be used by God.

As a goal for our company, my partner and I decided we would physically pray around each new project. The last one was a 40-acre project. We walked around the project before the grading started and asked God to pass His blessing to the homeowners who would eventually be buying the homes. We also prayed that God would seed the project with Christians, even pastors and evangelists who would be an influence in the new community.

Out of 100 buyers so far, about 50% are believers. We have two pastors, one evangelist, and five families that came from one church to start a home church in the community. As we decided to put God in front of our business, this is what God brought out of it.

Recently I was sharing with a friend that I had a desire to start a Bible study for non-church-going people - those who don't know very much about the Bible but want to learn what it says.

The very next day I was on a job site and Jason, a business owner with whom we do business, asked me if I was busy for lunch. We sat over lunch and what sprang up was the most natural, nonpressured time of sharing our beliefs with each other. I did nothing.

He just brought it up and I simply asked him questions. He was very skeptical, had many defenses, and could not understand how one makes the step of faith.

As I began to tell Jason that I was considering starting a Bible study for non-Christians, before I could finish, he said, "I'd be interested in something like that." He brought it up two more times, and as I said goodbye to him, he put out his hand and Housing business helps lost find a home in Christ said, "Now don't forget to call me if you start that group." Needless to say, we started to meet. He would drive 1 1/2 hours to my house to meet to learn about the Bible.

Four weeks later he told me he had an announcement - he had decided to put his trust in Christ. Some time later, his dad, who was diagnosed with cancer, decided to join us and I asked him if he had ever made a personal decision to follow Christ. He said no. "Would you like to?" I asked. He said, "Sure.

So over cheeseburgers and chocolate shakes he prayed to receive Jesus. He asked me if I would email him the prayer he just repeated so he could talk with his wife about it. The next week he led her in the same prayer. Jason and his wife were both baptized at their church and Jason now leads a Sunday school class and is in a small group. God is at work in the marketplace to change lives!
